My apologies for my long and unexplained hiatus round these parts. Between getting married, defending my thesis, moving to a new city and starting a postdoc, I've been a little busy.
My new research is something new and exciting involving liquid crystals! Which means all kinds of pretty pictures like this one:

I have a few posts planned for the next few weeks about the science-related parts of my crazy summer, and a few guest posts too. Hope you find them interesting!
PS- I am sad to say I lost $5 on my Nobel bet this year. Quasicrystals? What the heck! It sounds neat, I guess.
Congratulations on your marriage. Where's your postdoc at?
ReplyDeleteLaura
It's at the University of British Columbia, with Dr. Mark MacLachlan!
ReplyDeleteYour first priority wasn't to update your infiniflux profile? You're not a grad student anymore!
ReplyDeleteThanks Will! I updated it.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! What a switch- from Edmonton to Vancouver. Of course, the U of A has the better library. :) I hope you have time to hit the wineries in Kelowna (40 minute flight from Vancouver) and to hike the awesome Kettle Valley trail.
ReplyDeleteThis is true! The UBC library is missing my favourite science database (Scopus). For now I've been using my U of A credentials until they run out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the BC recommendations! Are you back at the U of A?
Sadly no. I'm a PhD student at the University of Western Ontario now.
ReplyDeleteI used to work at the UBC-O library in Kelowna so I know the UBC chemistry collection really well (and how lovely Kelowna is- particularly in October). No Scopus, Reaxys or SpringerMaterials!
