... and that is why you don't mix cases of energy drink and blogging under your real name

currently listening to: vampire weekend!

the below posts should be shown as an example to those who are tempted to stay up all all weekend and do science and blog about it. you stop making sense after about 18 hours of running experiments and then you wind up caring a lot more about sleeping then you do about blogging. both suffer as a result.

anyway, this blog that started out as a diversion to keep me awake while we were working at the synchrotron might actually be something i think i want to keep doing. blogging is all the rage these days in the chemistry world. i mean it's also all the rage in the rest of the world, but there is a (to me, at least) surprisingly talented and close-knit community of blogging chemists[1,2].

the CLS synchrotron!

so, hi. i'm joel, and i am officially embracing my inner nerd.

[1] the first order of business for infiniflux is to institute a system of giddily extraneous footnoting, somewhere between terry pratchett and david foster wallace. if anyone knows how to convince blogger or some other CMS platform to do this for me automatically, i will be eternally grateful. footnotes= legitamacy in the science blogging world.

[2] someone actually went as far as to coin the term "chemmunity" and start some sort of nifty web 2.0 experiment to see if peoples on the internets might actually be able to collaborate on actual, real life science. i happen to think is a ridiculously dorky term, also i am slightly jealous for not thinking of it first.

Alright! it's always awesome to welcome a new blogger. You don't have to be a nerd to blog... :-P

... but it definitely helps!

thanks for the welcome! i'm glad the internet's little chemmunity is so friendly and inclusive.

of course, my computer chose this time to suffer a complete failure, so the scads of posts i had planned may have to wait a month.

Vampire Weekend, Chemistry, AND David Foster Wallace references? I can't click "Add" on my Bloglines fast enough. I hope your computer gets fixed soon!
